The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has introduced a new Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
Speaking while releasing the 2024 KCSE exams, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that the exams will be done in July 2025.
Additionally, the CS explained that the exams will be a mid-year version of the main exams.
“Starting this year and following extensive stakeholder consultations, I wish to announce that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) will introduce a mid-year series of the KCSE examinations to be administered in July every year,” announced the CS.

Further, the CS noted that the newly introduced exams will favour repeating candidates or those who missed the previous exams because of various unexpected reasons.
“The examinations will target candidates wishing to repeat the KCSE examination and those who may have missed sitting the exams due to sickness or other unexpected hardships,
“Adult candidates may also consider registering for the July series examinations from this year,” he added.

2025 KCSE Registration Dates
On the other hand, KNEC CEO David Njengere announced that the Commission will start registering Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) KPSEA candidates on January 27, 2025.
Moreover, the registration of KCSE and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment candidates will begin on February 17, 2025.
“KNEC will commence registration of the 2025 KPSEA on January 27, 2025, and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment and KCSE on February 17, 2025,” he said.
The CEO asked school principals to ensure accurate student details are captured during registration adding that it has been a challenge in previous years.
Also, he stressed the importance of schools paying close attention to the spelling of candidates’ names, the arrangement of names, and the subjects they register for.
“I wish to appeal to all centre managers to ensure that all candidates are registered accurately,” he said.
