The Nation Media Group (NMG) has appointed Dr. Fredrick Okong’o Ouma, a career financial expert, as its head of internal audit. In a statement on Friday, December 5, 2025, the NMG Chief Executive Officer, Geoffrey Odundo, said Dr. Ouma’s appointment took effect from December 3.
“Dr. Ouma will be responsible for leading the Internal Audit function for the Group, overseeing the assurance and advisory on internal controls and processes, risk management, and governance processes. He will undertake objective and independent assurance, advice, and give insight and foresight to enhance the Group’s ability to create, protect, and sustain value to its Stakeholders,” said Odundo.
The NMG CEO noted that Ouma will bring the company a wealth of experience in internal audit leadership, risk management, compliance, business advisory, and corporate governance, given his broad exposure, having served in senior Audit roles across leading financial institutions in Kenya.
Ouma’s Educational Qualifications
Dr. Fredrick Ouma holds a PhD in Business Administration, specializing in Project Management, an MBA in Project Management, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from Kenyatta University.
At the same time, Ouma is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPAK), a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), a Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE), and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
According to his portfolio, he is also a Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) and a Certified Trustee (TDPK).
“I am a team player, with admirable interpersonal and communication skills and high level of emotional intelligence. I have served as the treasurer of ISACA Kenya chapter from 2018 to 2021 and currently the ISACA Kenya Chapter Secretary,” reads part of his profile on LinkedIn.
Career before NMG
Before his NMG appointment, he worked as the Chief Internal Auditor at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) for a period of 4 years,2 months, from November 2021- December 2025.
From November 2018 to December 2021, he was a part-time Board Member at ISACA Kenya Chapter.
In addition, he has had a stint in the banking sector. Between August 2015 and December 2021, he was the Head of Internal Audit at the Development Bank of Kenya.

Helping the Bank accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes,” describes his profile on LinkedIn.
He also had a five-year stint at the banking sector, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) from June 2010 to July 2015, where he served as an Internal Audit Officer.
“Previously I worked in Internal Audit department at the Central Bank of Kenya for five years where I participated in risk management, strategy audits and reviews, HR audits, formulation of policies and advisory on controls,” says Dr. Ouma.
Prior to joining CBK, he had worked for Crowe Erastus & Co., CPA for about three years.
Job Description
Dr. Ouma will be responsible for:
- leading the Internal Audit function for the Group
- overseeing the assurance and advisory on internal controls and processes
- risk management and governance processes.
- undertaking objective and independent assurance and advice, and provide insight and foresight to enhance the Group’s ability to create, protect, and sustain value for its Stakeholders.

Ouma’s appointment comes months after the Nation Media Group made appointments both in executive management and the board of directors.
Board and Executive Leadership
- Geoffrey Odundo was appointed as the Group Managing Director and CEO, effective April 7, 2025, joining NMG from the CPF Group.
He had previously served as the CEO of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).
- Joseph Muganda was appointed the new Board Chairman, effective June 27, 2025, succeeding the veteran Dr. Wilfred Kiboro, who retired.
- Jane Muiruri was appointed Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) in an expanded role, effective July 1, 2025.
- Sekou Owino was appointed General Counsel, effective July 1, 2025.
