The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced job opportunities for its graduates in the fields of driving and web design.

In a statement, the Youth Service urged eligible graduates to apply for the available positions.

“Our client, a highly reputable manufacturer and distributor of steel and pipes across East Africa, has exciting opportunities for National Youth Service-trained drivers,” the statement read.

According to the NYS, there are three driving categories with a total of 10 available positions:

i. Trailers (Benz & FAW) – 4 positions
ii. Tata – 2 positions
iii. FH – 4 positions

Duties and Responsibilities for the NYS Driver Position

Duties and responsibilities for the advertised driver positions include:

  • Drivers to use the assigned routes only, and the Transport Supervisor or Senior Management must authorize any deviation. Unauthorized deviation will result in the driver being charged for fuel as well as for any wear and tear of the vehicle.
  • Drivers must report to the Transport Supervisor any incidents immediately when they happen (even dents) and follow instructions from the supervisor. Damages to vehicles that were due to the driver’s negligence or carelessness shall be charged to the driver.
  • Drivers must report to the Transport Supervisor for the renewal of vehicle statutory requirements, i.e., insurances, inspection, and speed governors, at least 30 days before the expiry date.
  • Drivers must, at all times, check the vehicle checklist: oil levels, water, tire pressure, battery water, and electrical components every day before leaving the premises for a trip.
  • Ensure that the Delivery Notes are signed and stamped upon delivery; if no stamp is available, the ID number and name of the person receiving the materials must be obtained. The ID number should be confirmed against the ID copy/original.
  • All signed deliveries should be submitted to the receptionist once the driver is back from the trip.
  • Any complaints or discrepancies during the trip should be reported to the Transport Supervisor while on the delivery site.
  • Drivers must report to the Transport Supervisor if the customer is not offloading within 30 minutes of reaching the premises.
  • Drivers are strictly prohibited from carrying any unauthorized goods or personnel; any such authorization should be in written form.
  • The driver should ensure that he is available on his mobile phone at all times and should respond to or return calls from management.
  • Drivers must ensure they always have valid driving licenses within and outside the premises.
  • Drivers should always seek prior permission from the supervisor for any leave or time off. Unauthorized absenteeism will lead to disciplinary action.
  • Drivers must be physically present and participate in the counting during loading and offloading of goods and will be liable for any loss or shortages.
  • Comply with established Company values, policies, regulations, guidelines, systems, and procedures.
  • Any other lawful duty as delegated by management occasionally.
