The National Youth Service (NYS) has issued an update on the job opportunities in Australia which it had announced for its graduates.
NYS in a notice on August 30 announced more opportunities on top of the initial 993 vacancies that it had announced earlier in the month.
The Youth Service unveiled 128 more vacancies that are open for application by graduates.
“This serves as a notice that an addendum has been made in our advert on opportunities in Australia for National Youth service graduates being additional positions as tabulated,” read part of the notice.
In the update, NYS graduates have been encouraged to apply for the additional positions of Plasterers (FIBROUS) and Metal Fabricators/Welders which have 58 and 70 vacancies respectively.
Plasterers will be tasked with applying and fixing plasterboard partitions, suspended ceilings, fire rating systems, acoustic tiles, and composite wall linings to buildings.

Also, they will be involved in applying decorative and protective coverings of plaster, cement and similar materials to the interiors and exteriors of structures.
Metal fabricators/welders on the other hand will be working on a wide variety of projects at the workshop or install on site.
Applicants for the Metal fabricators/welders positions need to be trade qualified as either Welder or Metal Fabricator, according to the Youth service.
“If you are not qualified, but can work at a tradesman’s level, you will need recent and comprehensive work history, working as a fabricator / welder,” announced NYS.

Successful candidates for both positions will earn up to Ksh6.5 million every year with an additional 11 percent Superannuation.
On the other hand, NYS noted that candidates will be required to go through a six-month probation period and will be working for 38 hours every week.
They will also be issued with a health insurance as per Australian immigration requirements and will get assistance to bring immediate family members.
However, they will be required to take care of their own cost of travel, visa, pre-departure cost and medical examination cost.
Candidates will also undergo an English IELTS test and are required to score an overall of 5 and individual band score.

NYS issues update on vacancies for graduates in Australia
The update comes days after the Youth Service announced that it has extended the application deadline for the total 993 vacancies to September 3, 2024.
“We wish to notify you that the application deadline for the job opportunities in Australia made by the National Youth Service Employment Liaison Office on 12 August 2024 has been extended to September 3, 2024.”
The service extended the application deadline for the vacancies which it noted earlier in August through a notice that it had secured following a partnership deal with an undisclosed reputable company in Australia.
Further, NYS in the notice indicated that some of the jobs are on permanent basis while others are for a 2-to-4-year contract.
NYS graduates were encouraged to apply for the various positions including Light vehicle mechanics (120), Diesel mechanics (100), Panel Beaters (50), Window Fitters (38), Motor vehicle electricians (115), Fitter Machinist (50), Painters (130), Construction Carpenters (200), and Ceramics Wall & Floor Tilers (190).
