President William Ruto on Sunday October 9, evening arrived in Tanzania for a two-day state visit to the neighboring country.
The visit to Tanzania follows another visit to Uganda where he attended the country’s Independence Day celebrations on Sunday.
The head of state is expected to hold bilateral talks with the Tanzania president Samia Suluhu on issues affecting the two nations.
Nonetheless, president Ruto’s visits are seen as part of his efforts to familiarize himself with the neighboring country’s counterparts as he begins his tenure as Kenya’s fifth President.
Moreover, President William Ruto while in Uganda noted that the East African Community (EAC) will only achieve its potential if it eliminates restrictions at the borders preventing free trade and the movement of citizens.
According to the head of state a borderless EAC will allow people, goods and services to move across the region unhindered, hence, creating opportunities, wealth and prosperity.
Furthermore, Ruto stated that EAC should lead the way towards the realization of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“It is our place as leaders and citizens of the EAC region for us to work together so that we can transform our borders which today stand out as barriers and convert them to bridges so that goods, services and people can move across East Africa without any impedes.” Ruto said.
