First Lady Rachel Ruto has spoken after the discovery of mutilated bodies in Kware, Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums.
In a statement, Rachel Ruto condemned violence against women citing the acts as inhumane and unjust.

“Each of these women was someone’s child, sister or friend and no one should undergo such cruelty. Violence against women must end in our country, ” she said.
She expressed her condolences to the victim’s families saying that no parent deserved to bury their children under such heartbreaking circumstances.

“Our condolences and prayers go out to the families of the victims. No parent should ever have to bury their child, especially under such circumstances,” she sympathized.
The discovery of this bodies started on Friday 12th, July 2024 after area youth found nine unidentified bodies dumped in a quarry near Kware police station.

Additionally, eyewitness present at the scene during the retrieval said that most of the bodies found were female.

“We initially spotted one body, so we tied one of us with a rope and dropped him into the quarry to go inspect and retrieve the body.”
‘It was during the process that we discovered that there was more than one body all in similar looking green sacks,” said one of the youth assisting in the retrieval process.
A report by Mukuru Justice center reported that the youth were retrieving the bodies from the quarry, with the police on site as more bodies were being recovered.
The retrieval process has been ongoing and till the 13th, July,2024 four more bodies had been discovered.
The process sparked outrage among locals leading to a standoff between area residents and law enforcement officers.

An X user by the name Bonnie Mwangi cited Rachel Ruto ‘s message as hollow and insincere.
“Ever wondered why there is so much apathy and frustration in Kenya today? Why don’t people want to hear from this administration?
It’s because of messages like what you just wrote. Or had someone write. Or had ChatGPT write. They ring hollow and lack sincerity,” Mwangi said.
Other X users questioned Rachel Ruto ‘s presence during ongoing mass abductions that has been happening in the country as others expressed their disappointment since the cop who was seen shooting at protesters had not been brought to book.
