Political leaders and Kenyans have criticized St. Anne’s Girls Secondary School principal for locking out students at night.
According to reports, the students were locked out while reporting back on Tuesday, January 7, for failing to clear the school’s fee.
Makadara lawmaker George Aladwa confirmed that he has received the reports and sent a team to assess the situation.
In a Facebook at 11pm, Aladwa said he had directed the principal to grant the student’s access.
He confirmed that the matter has been resolved, and the students are all safe.
He advised parents to remain patient and refrain from any further concerns.
“Following reports that some students at St. Anne’s Girls Secondary School were left stranded outside the premises, I immediately dispatched my team to assess the situation,” Aladwa said.
“I have instructed the school management to grant access to the students, and I am pleased to confirm that the situation has now been resolved, with all students safely inside the school.”
Leaders Criticize St. Anne’s Girls Secondary School Principal
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai asked security agencies to arrest the principal.
He questioned why the principal decided to do that without considering the distance the students travelled to report back to school.
“The Principal of St. Anne’s Girls’ School in Makadara should be arrested and charged for doing this to the young girls. How do you lock students out of school when some travelled from as far as Garissa?” he asked.

Nominate Senator Karen Nyamu criticized the principal for risking the lives of the girls.
He described the act as ‘insensitive’ since the principal is answerable for the whereabouts of the girls.
“The principal of St Anne’s Makadara you have shocked the Nation. Imagine being so insensitive and still having girls of high school age under your care. Thank you Aladwa for intervening. It’s a sad day for the girl child!” Nyamu said.

Girls Narrate Why They Were Locked Out
In a video shared on social media, the girls said they were locked out due to fees arrears.
The students travelled from distant counties including Garissa, Kisii and Mombasa.
“I have been here since 4 a.m. and paid half the fee, but they didn’t allow me to enter, even though I came from far. They want the full fee, which is around Ksh26,000, and even if you pay half, they won’t let you in. What’s the point of staying here if we’ve already paid half?” said one of the girls.
