Zubeidah Kananu on Why She Should Be Re-elected
In her manifesto, Kanan highlights her track record in the two years she has led KEG.
Further, she has promised to continue championing equity by advocating for gender equality and empowering women and promoting inclusion in every newsroom, while prioritizing the welfare, safety, and dignity of all journalists.

Moreover, Kananu has promised to offer opportunities to young journalists and editors by mentoring and shaping a strong future for the journalism profession.
What’s more, Kananu has vowed to drive digital transformation, sustainability, and the promotion of credibility across the media landscape.
Defending press freedom is also key on her agenda, with the news anchor committing to ensuring journalists’ safety, advocating for transparent governance, and fostering united advocacy for media rights.
Career Background of Kananu
In 2007, Zubeidah Kananu began her career as a news anchor at KTN. Previously, she worked as an Intern at the Standard Media Group before moving up in ranks.
She works as a political editor and a Swahili News Anchor.
Kananu has worked in different capacities, including as a reporter, editor, and producer, covering diverse issues such as politics, social affairs, and human rights.

Previous Election Results
Before being elected to the position of President of KEG, she served as the Vice President of the editor’s body.
During the previous election, she defeated her competitor, Sammy Muraya, with 72 votes, succeeding Churchill Otieno.

Additionally, Francis Openda has been nominated for the vice-president position.
Linda Bach is vying for the Print Media Member category, while Kenfrey Kiberenge has been nominated for Online Media.
Millicent Awuor is the nominee for the Television category.
In the Radio category, Toepista Nabusoba and Agnes Mwangangi are the nominees, while Nathan Masambu and Julius Bosire have been nominated as Academia members.
