Founded by the Grant family, El Karama lodge offers a range of safari experiences for all ages, from active walks and horseback rides to Rock Hide, sleepouts, and wellness activities.
Sophie Grant came to Kenya as a volunteer for the Good Earth Trust in 2006 and moved to El Karama in 2008, building what is now El Karama Lodge.
While she manages the lodge behind the scenes, she enjoys meeting guests and sharing her love of gardening and cooking whenever paths cross.
On the other hand, Murray Grant, a globally respected sculptor of wildlife bronzes, was born and raised at El Karama.
He is a Director of the Conservancy and works full-time from his bush studio, creating art that reflects the surrounding landscape.
As the founder of El Karama Lodge, Murray built the first sections of the lodge in 2006 using locally sourced materials.
For over 20 years, he has supported the lodge’s growth, ensuring it contributes positively to the conservancy and the broader region.
He also leads conservation efforts at EKWC, including reforestation initiatives and the protection of indigenous tree species across the 15,000-acre conservancy.
