Fresh details have emerged about the lady who died in a stampede during the Asake and Gabzy concert held at the Nyayo Stadium on December 20, 2025.
A chaotic stampede was reported during the event as hundreds of music enthusiasts attempted to pass through a checkpoint amid heavy rainfall. Videos and images seen by The Kenya Times showed a group running into the stadium after breaching a checkpoint, causing loss of personal belongings and injuries to scores of the attendees.
A university student has since been confirmed dead after the stampede, as calls for accountability and investigations grow.
Daystar University Chaplain gives details of the Lady
In an internal message to students, Daystar University Chaplain Reverend Johnny Miano Weche revealed that Karen Lojore was a student at the university’s School of Science, Engineering, & Health, pursuing a BSc in Applied Computer Science.
“Dear Daystar, we are deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Karen Lojore (24-1330), following an incident at a music concert she was attending with friends on the night of 20th December 2025. Karen was a student in the School of Science, Engineering, & Health, pursuing a BSc in Applied Computer Science,” read the message from the Chaplain.
After the chaotic stampede, Karen was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead on arrival, and her body was later transferred to the City Mortuary.

Asake Sends Heartfelt Condolences
Nigerian music star Asake, who headlined the event, shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram story following the tragedy.
“I am devastated by the tragic incident that took place at the festival on Dec 20th in Nairobi. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore, and I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened. Those responsible should be held accountable. Music has always been my way of sharing love and joy, and it breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such loss. My thoughts are with everyone grieving, and I pray that Karen rests in peace. God Bless Kenya.”
Fans and the wider public have expressed support for Asake’s message, while also calling for strict safety measures at future concerts.

Tukutane Entertainment Issues Statement
The concert’s promoters, Tukutane Entertainment, also released an official statement expressing their deep sorrow over the incident.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm that a tragic incident occurred during our December 20th concert, resulting in the loss of life. Our hearts are with the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this devastating loss. We extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation, we will not speculate on the circumstances surrounding the incident. We are committed to approaching this situation with care, transparency, and accountability, and will share additional information as appropriate and in coordination with the relevant authorities,” the statement read.
The tragedy has sparked conversations about crowd management and safety measures at significant events. The event promoters have been accused of slow emergency response, poor crowd management, malfunctioning ticketing systems, and narrow entry points, which led to chaos amid heavy rain.
