Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion has sparked conversations online after stepping out with a noticeable appearance.
In a spot check at a public event on July 25, Sossion was seen with shiny black-dyed hair, a brown suede jacket, a white shirt, tight blue jeans, and polished black leather shoes.
The new appearance has attracted attention following his nomination to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) by President William Ruto.
In 2023, Sossion underwent a procedure at Kenyatta National Hospital to remove a fatty tissue growth on his forehead, a feature that had become associated with his public image and media caricatures over the years.

The shiny black hair was among the most discussed aspects of the new look, marking a contrast from his short-haired appearance that Kenyans had become accustomed to seeing during his years as KNUT secretary-general.
His outfit also attracted attention, with the brown suede jacket, white shirt combination and fitted blue jeans giving him a more casual and modern appearance compared to his usual formal public appearances.

From KNUT Leadership to TSC Nomination
Sossion served as KNUT Secretary-General from 2013 to 2021, a period marked by frequent disagreements between the union and the Teachers Service Commission over issues including teachers’ promotions, remuneration and implementation of the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
During his tenure, he became one of the most vocal critics of TSC policies, regularly challenging decisions affecting teachers and calling for reforms within the education sector.
In a statement on July 21, State House confirmed that President Ruto has nominated Sossion to serve as a member of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), subject to approval by Parliament.
“The following Presidential nominations have been transmitted to Parliament for consideration and approval in accordance with the Constitution and the relevant statutes.” “Two Members, Teachers Service Commission (TSC): Ms. Antonina Lentojioni and Hon. Wilson Sossion,” read the statement.
Sossion was nominated alongside Antonina Lentojioni, with the two expected to fill vacant positions at the commission.
The nominations form part of a round of nominations to constitutional commissions and statutory bodies, as well as promotions and redeployments within the Executive.

Public Figure’s Image Transformation Becomes Talking Point
His latest transformation adds to previous moments where his appearance became a subject of public discussion.
The latest transformation comes after Sossion underwent a 15-minute procedure at Kenyatta National Hospital(KNH) in July 2023 to remove fatty tissue from his forehead (lipoma).
The former KNUT secretary-general said doctors from KNH advised him to have the tissue removed, a move that changed a feature that had frequently appeared in newspaper cartoons about him
