Former Mombasa Gubernatorial seat aspirant Hassan Omar has quit his pursuit of the Senate Speaker seat in support of Amason Kingi, former Governor Kilifi County.
Hassan Omar, through his Facebook page, said he made the decision after a lengthy talk with the President –elect William Samoei Ruto and other Kenya Kwanza Coalition leaders.
“Following lengthy deliberations with H.E William Samoei Ruto and other Kenya Kwanza leaders yesterday, we agreed that H.E Amason Kingi be fronted as the coalition’s candidate for Senate Speaker in keeping with the spirit of coalition partnership,” said Omar on Wednesday.

“I have no objection to this considering that this position was reserved for the Coast and hereby withdraw my candidature for Senate Speaker. I trust that all senators will rally their support for my brother Kingi as the sole Kenya Kwanza Candidate as so agreed upon by all of us” The post further said.
The elections are set to happen on Thursday,8, September, during the 13th Parliamentary sitting, after elected MPs are sworn in.
