The speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula has dismissed suggestions made by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala to merge affiliate parties with UDA.
Speaking during a church service in Kakamega on Sunday, the National Assembly speaker said Kenya is a democratic country and voters should be allowed to make political choices to ensure the country runs well.
Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula said that such calls will derail multiparty democracy in Kenya.
“The constitution says Kenya shall be a multi-party state. Calling on people to dissolve parties is wrong.” he said.

Amani National Congress (ANC) party officials also dismissed calls to merge with UDA.
“We are not going to fold our party. If anything, we are planning to rejuvenate and strengthen our party from grassroots levels. ANC will remain vibrant,” its party leader Issa Timamy said.
