Former Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr. Fred Matiang’i has revealed his next step after a meeting with other opposition leaders.
Matiang’i will make his first public appearance in Gusii region on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka shared a statement from the Team Matiang’i Secretariat dated April 30, 2025.
Matiang’i’s Secretariat is responsible for coordinating his engagements as he prepares to vie for the presidency in the 2027 elections.
Matiang’i will be accompanied by all elected leaders from the Gusii region.
This includes Kisii Governor Simba Arati, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo, Onyonka and Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni.
The Secretariat said Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) will also be part of the team.
“The visit will include a meet-the-people tour and official courtesy visits to the offices of the respective Governors of Kisii and Nyamira Counties,” reads part of the statement.
The tour’s key stopovers are Kijauri, Keroka, Keumbu, Kisii Town, and Nyamira.
“This visit underscores Dr. Matiang’i’s commitment to listening to the people and reconnecting with the grassroots, “the Secretariat said.

Broad-Based Oppositon Meeting
This comes after Matiang’i met with other opposition leaders on April 29, 2025, focused on 2027 election plans.
The meeting was attended by former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and PLP leader Martha Karua.
DAP-K boss Eugene Wamalwa, and former Public Service CS Justin Muturi were also in attendance.
Other leaders present include Jubilee Party National Chairman Saitoti Torome, former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi and Mukhisa Kituyi.

Gachagua’s Message to Matiang’i
In a statement after the meeting, Gachagua said Matiang’i and the other leaders who have joined the opposition are on the right side of history.
“The team to liberate Kenya gets bigger every day. Welcome, Dr. Fred Matiangi, JB Muturi and Mithika Linturi. You are on the right side of history,”Gachagua said.
The leaders issued a joint statement on continued extrajudicial killings and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Gachagua held a separate meeting with Linturi and Muturi the following day.
In a statement after the meeting, Karua said, “We strongly condemn the rampant the multi-agency killer Police Squads and Dr Ruto’s systemic dismantling of our country’s democratic safeguards and subverting justice. Kenya must be saved and justice served.”
