The race for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive political contests in the country.

With the election just under a year away, a growing list of experienced politicians, activists, and professionals have declared their candidacies for the position.

Incumbent Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has officially declared her bid to seek a third term in the office during the 2027 elections

Passaris, who has represented Nairobi women since 2017, made the official announcement on August 22, 2026.

“My name is Esther Muthoni Passaris, and in 353 days, I will be defending my seat as the Nairobi County Woman Representative in the 2027 General Election,” Passaris declared as she announced her candidacy.

Passaris is a renowned social entrepreneur and philanthropist, best known for founding the Adopt-A-Light initiative, one of Kenya’s pioneering public-private partnership projects.

Throughout her tenure, she has championed women’s empowerment, bursary programs, and social welfare initiatives across Nairobi.

Tabitha Mutinda Banking on Grassroots Support

Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda has emerged as one of the strongest challengers to Passaris.

The pharmacist-turned-politician formally launched her bid and has intensified her grassroots mobilization across Nairobi.

Mutinda, who serves as Vice Chairperson of the Senate Finance and Budget Committee, has built her campaign around economic empowerment, youth development and women’s leadership.

Through programs branded under the hashtags #MamaNairobi and #MamaMutinda, she has sought to expand her political appeal across the city’s 17 constituencies.

Her growing visibility, combined with endorsements from church groups and local leaders, has elevated her to the front ranks of the race.

Millicent Omanga Makes Another Attempt

Former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has officially declared her bid for the women’s representative seat in February 2026.

Popularly known as “Mama Miradi,” Omanga announced her intention to contest the seat through her X account, saying she would be on the ballot for Nairobi Woman Representative in 2027.

As a businessperson and former KenGen director, Omanga previously contested the seat in both the 2017 and 2022 elections.

Since leaving the Senate, she has maintained a strong political presence through community programs, development projects and regular engagement with supporters across Nairobi.

Karen Nyamu and Faith Odhiambo Eye Nairobi Woman Rep Seat

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu is among the high-profile contenders eyeing the Nairobi seat in the general election.

The lawyer and former Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company director previously contested the seat in 2017 and remains a recognizable political figure in the capital.

Former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo, who rose to national prominence during the 2024 Finance Bill protests, has also joined the politicians in vying for the seat.

Her advocacy earned her widespread recognition among young Kenyans and civil society groups.

Backed by allies within the Linda Mwananchi movement, Odhiambo has reportedly begun grassroots mobilization in Nairobi as she seeks to translate her legal and activist profile into electoral success.

Crystal Asige

ODM-nominated Senator Crystal Asige has also been widely linked to the race.

The award-winning musician, disability rights advocate, and legislator has built a reputation nationally and internationally through her advocacy work on inclusion and disability rights.

She gained recognition for championing legislation affecting persons with disabilities and was named among the TIME100 Next honorees in 2024.

While she has not made a direct public declaration like some of her competitors, she remains one of the names frequently mentioned as a potential ODM contender for the position.

Other Aspirants Linked to the Nairobi Woman Rep Race

Other names linked to the Nairobi Woman Representative contest include activist Hanifa Adan (Hanifa Farsafi), former Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu, communications strategist Pauline Njoroge, former nominated senator Beatrice Kwamboka, lawyer and entrepreneur Corazon Kwamboka, and blogger Sophie Aoko Otieno, popularly known as Maverick Aoko.

On the other hand, Hanifa Adan, Corazon Kwamboka, and Maverick Aoko have publicly expressed interest in the seat.

Ann Kananu, Pauline Njoroge, and Beatrice Kwamboka have also been mentioned in media and political circles as possible contenders.
