Rachier grew up in a Christian family, where his father was a church leader, and his mother was a teacher.
He attended Alliance High School, where he excelled in academics.

Career
Legal Career
Ambrose Rachier’s legal journey began in 1975, when he was admitted to the Bar after graduating from the University of Dar es Salaam with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B).
Today, he is the founder and senior partner at Rachier & Amollo Advocates LLP, a top-tier law firm in Kenya known for handling complex corporate and commercial cases.
He later earned a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Arts in Translation, and a Diploma in French from the University of Madagascar.
In 2022, he added a Master’s in Bioethics from Trinity International University (USA) and is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of South Africa.
He is the founder and senior partner at Rachier & Amollo Advocates LLP, a top law firm in Nairobi established in the 1990s.
For nearly five decades, Rachier has specialized in conveyancing, corporate law, and commercial transactions, advising major banks, multinationals, and government bodies.
He played a pivotal role in revising Kenya’s land laws to align with the 2010 Constitution. He chaired the national HIV/AIDS legal task force, which drafted the HIV and AIDS Control and Prevention Act (2006) and influenced Sessional Paper No. 3 of 1997.
Beyond practice, Rachier has served as Chairperson of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Ethics Review Committee for over 40 years, contributed to global health law standards, and lectured at the Kenya School of Law (1986–2006) and Strathmore University.
His contributions to legal reform and ethics earned him the prestigious title of Senior Counsel (SC) on December 4, 2025, marking him among Kenya’s most respected lawyers.
Gor Mahia Leadership
Ambrose Rachier became chairman of Gor Mahia in May 2008, taking over from Erastus Okul at a time when the club had gone 18 years without a league title.
His leadership marked the start of one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.
Under Rachier, Gor Mahia has:
- Won 9 Kenyan Premier League titles (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023, 2024).
- Lifted 4 FKF Cups, 6 Super Cups, and 2 KPL Top 8 titles.
- Reached the CAF Confederation Cup group stage in 2018 and the quarterfinals in the 2018–19 season, the club’s best continental performance in decades.
He also secured major sponsorship deals that stabilized the club financially, with Tuzo sponsoring the club from 2011 to 2014, and Sportpesa from 2016 to 2018, with the betting firm renewing its sponsorship again in 2022.
Rachier introduced governance reforms, including a modern club constitution in 2019, which imposed term limits.
Previously, Gor Mahia had no term limits, but now officials can only serve two four-year terms after the 2020 elections.
However, because the constitution came into effect mid-tenure, Rachier was allowed to contest again.
He is currently serving his fifth and final term (2025–2029), after winning re-election in April 2025 with 658 votes against Dolfina Odhiambo’s 456.
His leadership will total 21 years, making him Gor Mahia’s longest-serving chairman.
Rachier has promised to take Gor Mahia to CAF Champions League success before his exit in 2029, aiming to replicate the club’s historic continental glory of 1987.
In October 2022, Rachier publicly admitted he is a Freemason, sparking a heated debate in Kenya.
