The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a detailed weather forecast ahead of the weekend.
In its forecast shared on December 13, Kenya Met predicted rainfall over Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, North-Eastern, North-Western, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Central Kenya, including Nairobi.
The weatherman stated that the rains are expected to bring relief to many areas.
“Rainfall is expected over Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, North-Eastern, North-Western, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Central Kenya including Nairobi. This will bring some relief to many areas,” read part of the weather forecast.
In addition, strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are forecast over Marsabit and Turkana counties, prompting authorities to urge residents to take necessary precautions.
Kenya Met advised residents in those counties to plan accordingly, especially in regions prone to occasional rainfall and temperature variations.
KMD Releases Weekend Weather Update
In its weather forecast covering the period from December 9 to December 15, KMD stated that most parts of the country are expected to be sunny and dry.
However, occasional rainfall may occur in some areas, including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Coast, North-eastern, and South-eastern lowlands.
In its forecast, daytime maximum temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C in the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya, as well as parts of the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley, and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
Night-time minimum temperatures are forecast to drop below 10°C in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and around Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Highlands of Rift Valley
Counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley, including Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok, will mainly experience sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night.
Afternoon and night showers may occur over a few places.

North-Western and Highlands of Rift Valley Regions
According to the weather forecast, counties in North-western Kenya, specifically Turkana and Samburu counties, will experience sunny intervals during the day with partly cloudy conditions at night.
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi, are expected to have cloudy mornings with a chance of light rains in some areas, giving way to sunny intervals. At the same time, afternoon and evening showers are possible in a few places.
North-Eastern Kenya
In North-Eastern Kenya, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, sunny intervals will dominate the day with partly cloudy nights. However, morning rains and afternoon showers may occur in some areas.
The South-eastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, and inland parts of Tana-River County, are forecast to have sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights.
However, they will experience occasional showers in the morning, afternoon, and at night in some areas.
Coastal Regions
Counties in the Coast region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal parts of Tana-River, will experience sunny intervals during the day with partly cloudy nights.
However, showers may occur in the morning, afternoon, and night in some areas.
