President William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and other top leaders have sent their condolences after the death of High Court judge and member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) David Majanja.
Ruto described Majanja as a brilliant lawyer who joined the Bench after an exemplary spell at the Bar.
President Ruto said Majanja’s integrity and ability inspired the confidence of his colleagues, while his powerful intellect made him a trusted juridical voice.
“It has been evident for long that although fairly experienced, Majanja was at the beginning of a long and illustrious career, and this fact makes his passing all the more tragic,” Ruto said.

He extended condolences to Majanja’s family and friends and to the Judiciary on behalf of the government.
“May Almighty God grant you the strength to bear this loss and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.
Gachagua & Kalonzo mourn David Majanja
DP Gachagua stated that had an illustrious career describing him as a prolific gifted mind that immensely contributed to redefining the legal profession and the justice system.
“My deepest condolences to the family, friends, the learned friend’s fraternity and our Nation. We pray that the family finds solace in the Lord at this lowest moment, as they come to terms with this big loss,” Gachagua said.
On his side, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said he was saddened to learn of the passing of Justice Majanja.
Kalonzo said Majanja had a strong legal mind and was very well respected, which is why he was elected as a Commissioner of the JSC.
“May his legacy live on. I also pray that the Almighty God will comfort Justice Majanja’s family and loved ones in this hour of grief,” he said.
LSK, ODPP & Otiende Amollo
LSK President Faith Odhiambo also conveyed condolences to his family, friends and the Judiciary fraternity.
“It is with deep remorse that I have learnt of the passing on of High Court Judge and JSC Commissioner, Justice David Majanja. It is a profoundly sad day for Kenya and the legal fraternity as we have lost one of the fine minds on our bench,” Odhiambo said.
“His studious contributions to our country’s Jurisprudence and commitment to uphold standards of excellence in Judicial service formed a remarkable legacy for which he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.”
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Mulele Ingonga termed him as an outstanding judge, jurist and JSC Commissioner who served with outmost dedication and distinction.

Igonga said the judiciary will miss Majanja and hopes that he will be immortalized into Kenya’s memories through the rich jurisprudence that he leaves behind.
“On my own behalf, and the entire ODPP, I convey my sincere condolences to his family, friends, the Judiciary and the entire legal fraternity. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.
Rarieda MP and former Ombudsman Otiende Amollo mourned Majanja saying “I’m greatly disturbed by news of demise of my colleague, friend, and distinguished jurist, Justice David Majanja! A scholar of integrity, and a judge as judicious and fair as the best of them’ rest with the angels my brother!”
Chief Justice (CJ) Martha Koome announced the death of Justice Majanja on Wednesday, July 10.

Majanja Career & Education
Justice Majanja was among the judges who ruled that the housing levy that was supported by the government was unconstitutional.
He was appointed Judge of the High Court in 2011 and served at Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu and Kisii High Courts.
Majanja also served at the Commercial and Tax Divisions and Milimani High Court Civil Division.
He practiced Law specializing in Civil and Commercial Law and was also involved in public interest litigation.
Majanja was an assisting Counsel for the Commission of Inquiry into the Post Election Violence (Waki Commission).
He was admitted to the Bar in 1998 and holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree, International Trade and Investment Law in Africa, University of Pretoria (2005)
He also has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, University of Nairobi (1996) and Post Graduate Diploma in Law, Kenya School of Law
