Four Kenyan security officers were killed following an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Mandera County.
Preliminary reports indicate that the terrorist attack is believed to have happened at the border of Banisa and Mandera West Sub-counties in Mandera County on the evening of Thursday, July 12, 2024.
The incident reportedly involved suspected Al-Shabaab militants who ambushed Special Operations Group (SOG) operators who were on patrol at Har Sigenge area.
The four SOG officers were part of a group of 15 who were patrolling the area. During the attack, the patrolling group included 12 SOG officers and three National Police Reservists (NPR).
It is during the attack when the officers were accosted by the militants triggering a fire exchange, leading to the death of four of the elite SOG officers while three were injured.
Mandera Al-Shabaab Attack
According to reports, five other officers are still missing while three National Police Reservists sustained injuries.
“All the 6 injured are in stable condition and have been transferred from Guba Health Centre to Banisa Hospital awaiting airlifting to Nairobi,” read a police report issued to the press.

The report further indicated that combined SOG officers from Guba, Ashabito and Takaba are on the ground to search for the missing officers.
