The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has announced 150 internship and apprenticeship opportunities.
In a notice published on Tuesday, November 7, KPA invited Kenyans who meet the set requirements to apply for the opportunities spread across 22 fields.
The opportunities, as per the notice, will be available for both diploma and degree holders in various areas of specialization.
Among the divisions where the interns and apprentices will be deployed include corporate communications, civil engineering, container terminal operations, project development, and marketing cruise and customer experience.
In addition, KPA will also deploy interns in the ferry operations, ferry maintenance, litigation and disputes, and finance dockets.
Some of the qualifications required for the program include Diploma in Law, Diploma in Commerce, Diploma in Marketing, and Diploma in Mechanical or Marine Engineering.
Further, KPA will be looking for Kenyans with a Diploma in Human Resource Management, Diploma in Maritime Transport and Logistics, and Diploma in Information Technology.
Those with a degree or diploma holder in Public Relations and Corporate Communications have an opportunity to land a slot in the corporate communications office.
According to the notice, the internships program will run for one year effective from January 2024.
Requirements
To be eligible, one must be a Kenyan citizen of below 34 years.

In addition, the applicant must be unemployed and a graduate from a recognized institution with either of the listed qualifications.
Further, KPA affirmed that the program will be strictly for Kenyans who have not had any prior exposure to work experience and not benefited from any similar internships program.
How to Apply for KPA Internships
Applications for the opportunities will be made online through the KPA career portal.
The deadline for the applications has been set for November 27.
“All applications shall be received on or before November 27,” the notice read in part.
Successful candidates, KPA added, will be required to complete twelve months in the program. However, the parastatal clarified that it will not offer employment after completion of internships.

The Kenya Ports Authority is mandated to manage and operate all seaports and Inland waterway ports in Kenya.
Currently, the authority is responsible for the operation and management of the Port of Mombasa, Port of Lamu, scheduled seaports including Malindi, Kilifi, Mtwapa, Kiunga, Shimoni, Vanga, Ngomeni and Kiungs.
In addition, the authority is responsible for the management of inland waterways including Kisumu Port and other inland jetties, the Inland Container Depots in Nairobi, Naivasha and Kisumu as well as liaison offices in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo that cater for transit countries.
