Safaricom PLC has enabled parents and students to check Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) results via mobile phones.
In a message sent on December 4, Safaricom stated that parents can check results via SMS will cost KSh30
“To check a KJSEA learners selected schools, send their assessment number to 22263. The SMS costs KSh 30,” read the message.
Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba announced that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will be in charge of releasing the examination results for the 2025 KJSEA.
While addressing the media on Wednesday, October 29, Ogamba stated that the 2025 KJSEA results will be released on December 11 this year, while the KCSE results will be issued in January 2026.
The total number of KJSEA Grade 9 students who sat for the examination is 1,130,669.
Additionally, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) opened portal for parents to check the school choices and academic pathways selected by learners who have completed KJSEA.
Parents can now click the link https://selection.education.go.ke/my-selections, enter their child’s assessment number, and check their school choices and selected pathway.
No Certificates for Grade 9 Candidates
Education CS stated that learners will not be issued certificates, as was the case with the now phased-out Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Instead, they will receive result slips indicating their performance in each subject.
The KJSEA is designed to evaluate learners’ competencies in various areas, including English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Religious Education, Agriculture, Pre-Technical Studies, Creative Arts, and Physical Education.
KJSEA results will contribute 60 percent of the learners’ final score, while the remaining 40 percent will come from classroom assessments done in Grades 7 and 8. This integrated assessment approach aims to provide a more holistic picture of each learner’s strengths and abilities.

Placement at Senior School
The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) at the senior school level (Grades 10–12) introduces structured pathways, subjects, and school types designed to align learning with students’ talents and future career goals.
Placement in senior schools will depend on the performance of the student and alignment with career pathways.

Selection of Schools
Senior schools selected will be either triple pathway institutions, offering all three routes, or double pathway schools, offering two combinations, such as STEM with Arts and Sports (STEAMS) or STEM with Social Sciences (STEMS).
Accommodation models for the school chosen can include either a day school (commuting learners) or a hybrid school.
The school selected may be single-sex or mixed, with specialized institutions for learners with special needs, including vocational senior schools.
Currently, senior schools still fall under the traditional four-tier categorization:
- C1 – National
- C2 – Extra County
- C3 – County
- C4 – Sub-County
