Motorists using the Nairobi Expressway will experience a temporary diversion as MOJA Expressway Company rolls out a toll-free arrangement.
In a statement issued on Thursday, May 7, the company said the move will facilitate ongoing construction works along Waiyaki Way between GTC and ICEA Lion Group.
The highway is a critical artery that links the CBD to Western Lands and the wider corridor, forming part of the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
The company said the diversion will be in effect on Thursday, May 7, from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am and again on Friday, May 8, within the same hours.
“To facilitate ongoing construction along Waiyaki Way (between GTC and ICEA Lion Group), a temporary toll-free arrangement on the Nairobi Expressway will be implemented from Thursday, 7th May 2100 to 0600 hrs and Friday, 8 May 2100 to 0600 hrs,” read part of the statement.
During the period, motorists will be required to use the Nairobi Expressway through Haile Selassie Entrance A at Bunyala Roundabout. Drivers will be issued entry tickets and allowed to exit free of charge at the Nairobi Westlands Exit.
MOJA Expressway clarified that the toll-free diversion will only apply to vehicles entering through the designated station.

The company maintained that all other toll stations along the expressway will continue to charge normal tolls.
“Please note that this toll-free arrangement applies only to vehicles entering from the specified stations,” it noted.
“All other toll stations and routes will continue to operate under the normal tolling rules.”
Motorists have been advised to observe traffic signage and follow instructions from traffic marshals deployed on-site to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and safety during the works.
Construction works have been ongoing along Waiyaki Way, with the Kenya National Highways Authority upgrading the busy corridor as part of the expansion of the A8 road.
The project includes major upgrades to the James Gichuru–Rironi section to convert it into a six-lane highway, as well as new interchanges at Uthiru and Kangemi.

Free Access Granted Amid Flooding Crisis
The announcement comes after motorists traveling from Mlolongo toward Nairobi’s city centre were granted, on Friday, May 1, temporary toll-free access to select sections of the Nairobi Expressway following severe flooding that disrupted traffic along the A8 corridor.
MOJA Expressway Company said the waterlogging had caused significant congestion on Mombasa Road, prompting the operator to waive toll fees for motorists exiting via the Southern Bypass and the Eastern Bypass (Exit A).
The company clarified that while drivers can still access the expressway through inbound entry points from Mlolongo, they must exit through the designated routes to benefit from the waiver.
