Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have continued in their efforts to fight against narcotics trafficking in the country.
In a statement made on Monday August 19, the DCI said that officers stationed at Malindi Police station conducted a raid on a suspected traffickers store in Midodoni village.
“In efforts to counter trafficking in narcotics, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit stationed at Malindi Police Station are actively pursuing a trafficker who managed to evade capture, in a Sh2.5 million cannabis seizure,” said the DCI.
The operation was launched following a tipoff from members of the public about the suspect’s involvement in illegal drug dealings.
“Following reports from members of the public about the suspect’s engagement in illegal dealings, officers launched a raid at his store in Midodoni village,” read the statement.
Suspect Evades Police Capture
However, the suspect, identified as Morris Ware, managed to escape arrest after spotting the officers approaching, leaving his store unattended.

Upon inspection of the store, the officers discovered 86 kilograms of cannabis stashed in four sacks, with an estimated street value of Ksh 2.5 million.
The seized drugs were taken to Malindi Police Station for safekeeping while the search for Ware continues.
“The recovered narcotics were taken to Malindi Police Station for safe custody as exhibits as the search for the elusive trafficker continues.”
Additionally, the DCI urged members of the public to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities so as to aid in the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations urges members of the Public to volunteer information on suspicious characters or activities to ensure a safe and secure drug-free environment for all citizens,” they said.
Drug Trafficker Arrested in DCI Cocaine Raid
This development echoes a similar drug seizure operation launched by DCI sleuths on May 25 at suspected traffickers” residence in Donholm, Nairobi.
The raid saw the arrest of three Kenyan suspects and seizure of 298 pellets of cocaine, weighing approximately 6.8 kg.

In their statement on May 26, the DCI said the cocaine valued at Ksh 27.5 million was discovered hidden inside three teddy bears, placed inside a black suitcase.
The operation also saw the officers retrieve several air tickets to different destinations under the name of the female suspect.
“As the DCI tightens the noose on drug traffickers, three suspects found with 298 pellets of cocaine have been arrested at their house in New Donholm area, Nairobi,” read part of the DCI statement.
“298 pellets of the nose candy weighing about 6.8kg estimated at Sh27.5 million in street value were discovered, alongside several air tickets for different destinations in the name of the female suspect.”
