Keiyo South Member of Parliament (MP) Gideon Kimaiyo has sponsored a girl who joined form one with two goats due to lack of school fees.
According to reports, the mother took the only two remaining goats to the principal to secure her daughter’s admission at St Benedicts Queen of Peace Secondary School in Marakwet East.
In a photo that went viral, the mother is seen standing with her daughter under a tree with the two goats, a metallic box, a mattress, and a bucket.
Kimaiyo, who was touched by the mother’s dedication offered to sponsor the girl and pay her school fees for the four years.
“Though the girl doesn’t come from my constituency, I was touched by this story. Today i talked to the principal & paid school fees. I will sponsor the girl for 4 years,” he wrote on his X account.
He directed that the goats be returned to the woman and hoped that they multiply by God’s grace.
“Mama arudishiwe mbuzi yake na toumbee Mungu izae iwe mingi,” he said.
This loosely translates to “The woman should get back her goats and we pray that they muliply in number.”
Earlier, the MP had promised to buy the goats and in exchange for the girl’s four years fees.
“This it is touching. Let me buy those goats with her school fees for four years. Someone should deliver the goats to me tomorrow at home,” said Kimaiyo.

Ministry Form One Promise
This follows a pledge by the Education Ministry to achieve 100 per cent transition of learners from primary to secondary schools by Monday, January 29.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang on January 22 launched a countrywide mop up exercise to ensure all those who sat for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCPE) transit to secondary school.
“We are working with the Ministry of Interior to ensure that we attain 100 per cent. As of Friday, January 19, we were doing slightly above 70 per cent, and I believe as data continues to stream in, we will be doing good by the end of this year, across the country we should be at 80 per cent,” said Kipsang.

Data from the ministry shows that the national transition rate was 87 per cent as of January 22 with Coast lagging behind at 65 per cent.
The move by the PS came amid reports that 20 per cent of last year’s KCPE candidates were yet to join form One.
The PS directed all county commissioners and chiefs across to ensure that all students who at for the exams in their areas join secondary school.
