Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director General Lt. Gen. Mohamed Badi has declared his support for Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
Badi becomes the first serving military official to openly declare support for Odinga.
Badi spoke on Monday when he accompanied Odinga to a town hall meeting with bodaboda riders in Nairobi
At the same time he pledged to ensure motorbikes confiscated by the city inspectorate are released to their owners unconditionally.
“I want to assure you, Your Excellency, that we will engage the Inspector General of Police to ensure all these bodabodas are freed before the election,” he said
“We will dismiss all the rogue inspectorate officers harassing our riders,” he added.
During the meeting Odinga asked bodaboda riders to ferry all elderly persons to voting stations on voting day.
Raila promised to create a sh1 billion bodaboda fund to boost the sector.
He said the revolving fund will ensure more than 2.5 million operators across the country can easy access to purchase, maintenance and operation of motorcycles.
He also promised to roll out refresher courses for police officers and county enforcement officers to enable them to handle the operators with decorum following complaints.
