Mututho has a postgraduate Diploma in Resource Economics and a Master’s in Environment Economics from Latrobe University, Australia.
Career Background
He was appointed in 2013 by former president Uhuru Kenyatta as the chairman of NACADA after approval by the parliament.
During his tenure as the chairman, he introduced the Mututho Law Alcohol Control Act, which regulated alcohol consumption and operation time for bars and alcohol outlets.
In addition, he served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in 2007 for Naivasha Constituency.
He served on different parliamentary committees, such as chairman of Agriculture, Lands, and Natural Resources.
Previously, before becoming an MP, he worked in the civil service for more than 10 years.
He served in the International Agencies and Government of Kenya in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) as the coordinator.

John Mututho has a son, Daniel Njenga further details about his family are not disclosed to the family, however, in 2023, Mututho accused police officers of harassing his family members.

He had a debt totaling Ksh4.058 million that he owed Africa Banking Corporation (ABC).
