JOHN MUTUTHO

John Mututho is a Kenyan politician and former Chairman of the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

He also served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in 2007 for Naivasha Constituency.

Age and Early Life

He was born in 1957 in Naivasha. He came from a humble background, building resilience during his childhood.

He has never drunk alcohol while growing up, and he is proud of that journey. He is known as the ‘sober’ man.

John Mututho Educational Background

John Mututho attended St. Bridance Primary School. His dream of attending Starehe High School was cut short, forcing him to join a nearby High school as a day scholar.

Additionally, he holds a Diploma in Range Management from Egerton University and a bachelor’s degree in Range Management and Agriculture from the University of Nairobi.

Mututho has a postgraduate Diploma in Resource Economics and a Master’s in Environment Economics from Latrobe University, Australia.

Career Background

He was appointed in 2013 by former president Uhuru Kenyatta as the chairman of NACADA after approval by the parliament.

During his tenure as the chairman, he introduced the Mututho Law Alcohol Control Act, which regulated alcohol consumption and operation time for bars and alcohol outlets.

In addition, he served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in 2007 for Naivasha Constituency.

He served on different parliamentary committees, such as chairman of Agriculture, Lands, and Natural Resources.

Previously, before becoming an MP, he worked in the civil service for more than 10 years.

He served in the International Agencies and Government of Kenya in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) as the coordinator.

Family

John Mututho has a son, Daniel Njenga further details about his family are not disclosed to the family, however, in 2023, Mututho accused police officers of harassing his family members.

Net Worth

John has not revealed his net worth to the public; however, he has faced financial scandals.

He had a debt totaling Ksh4.058 million that he owed Africa Banking Corporation (ABC).

Mututho issued three bouncing cheques for Ksh750,000, a move that almost jailed him.
