President William Ruto picked Lee Kinyanjui to join his cabinet when he effected a reshuffle on December 19, 2024. Ruto nominated Kinyajui to head the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry. Lee is a renowned politician and businessman.
Career Profile of Lee Kinyanjui
Lee has a long political journey that goes way back to 2007 when he was elected Member of Parliament for Nakuru Town. He was elected through the Party of National Unity (PNU) ticket.
In 2008, President Mwai Kibaki appointed Lee as the Assistant Minister for Roads.
He served in this position for four years, in the Grand Coalition Government of former President Mwai Kibaki and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In 2013, he took a shot at the gubernatorial race of Nakuru County but lost to Kinuthia Mbugua who became the pioneer governor of Nakuru County.
Additionally, in September 2013, shortly after the 2013 general elections, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him as the Chairman of the National Transport and Safety Authority – NTSA.
In 2017, Lee took a second shot at the gubernatorial race under the Jubilee Party Ticket and won, becoming the County’s second governor.

He sought to defend his seat as governor in 2022 still under the Jubilee party ticket, which was part of Odinga’s AZIMIO coalition but lost to United Democratic Alliance (UDA’s) Susan Kihika.
Education
He holds a bachelor’s degree in education and literature from Kenyatta University after which he pursued a master’s degree in business administration at the University of Nairobi.

Lee Kinyanjui is married to Elizabeth Kinyanjui. Little is known about his children and his family as the politician has kept his family away from the limelight.
