Two people have been shot dead and two others injured by gunmen next to a police station in Ntimaru in Migori County.
Speaking to the media, witnesses said the suspects were in full police uniforms and armed with guns.
“The National Intelligence Service (NIS) should establish how these people came here because they were in full police uniforms and armed with guns. So, people will fear attending to police officers when they come for services,” said Daniel Wambura, a resident of Ntimaru.
Ntimaru residents demanded the government to investigate the incident and arrest the suspects.
They also asked the government to improve security measures in the Constituency.
“We are asking the authorities to look into this matter, treat it as an emergency and get deep into it,” added Wambura.
Narrating the incident, Fredrick Kiboko, a businessman in Ntimaru said he lied down to hide from the gunmen.
Kiboko said one of his neighbors was shot during the incident.
“I had to lie down to save my life and I thank God the gunmen did not find me. After the shooting, we went to check on those who were injured. When we got there, I found my neighbor was shot,” said Kiboko.
Police Investigations
Ntimaru Police Commander Kennedy Osando said police have already started investigations to arrest the suspects.
He also urged the residents to provide useful information that will aid the investigation process.
“We have already started investigating the incident, we are treating is as a normal robbery even though we don’t know what really happened.
We will follow up and ensure the suspects are arrested and arraigned in court,” said Osando.
