The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has taken proactive steps to ensure a smooth journey for motorists during the highly anticipated 2024 World Rally Championship (WRC Safari Rally).
With large crowds expected and traffic congestion a potential hurdle, KeNHA has unveiled a network of alternative routes to help Kenyans travelling from Nairobi and Kiambu navigate around the racing action.
“With the World Rally Championship zooming into town this Easter, we are gearing up for an adrenaline – packed weekend. Don’t get stuck in traffic. We’ve got your back with some exciting alternative routes,” KeNHA shared in a statement on March 26.
The WRC Safari Rally will be starting on 28th March to 31st March 2024.
Routes from Nairobi-Naivasha to Access the Safari Rally Event
Four routes have been highlighted by KENHA to cater to different preferences:
The scenic route: It offers a picturesque journey, meandering from Nairobi through Rironi via the Magumu flyover, continuing through Njabini then Ol Kalou to Ol Joro Orok before finally arriving at Lanet.

Adventure route: This route takes drivers from Nairobi to Rironi-Naivasha-Engineer, Ol Kalou-Ol Joro Orok, and destination in Lanet.
Thika Trail: This route provides a more direct option, guiding motorists from Nairobi through Thika then headed to Magumu flyover through to Ol Kalou then to Ol Joro Orok, and onto Lanet.
The Suswa Shortcut: This route offers the most time-saving option. It navigates from Nairobi to Ngong town then Kibiko before heading to Suswa and connecting to Lanet.

2024 WRC Safari Rally in Naivasha
The WRC Safari Rally is a major sporting event in Kenya, expected to draw large crowds and significantly increase traffic volume.
This year’s Safari Rally has been moved up to the Easter slot and is now the third round of the 2024 FIA WRC following the opening two races in Monaco and Sweden.
The event which marks its 71st staging in the country will be officially flagged-off by President William Ruto at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Thursday 28 before traversing the Rift Valley.
A formidable roster of 29 participants, hailing from various corners of the globe, stands ready to conquer the demanding course and strive for victory in the competitions.
Esteemed drivers, including Thierry Neuville from the Hyundai Shell Mobis team, who currently leads the championship standings, and Adrien Fourmax of M-Sport Ford, are set to showcase their skills in the Safari Rally with hopes of securing crucial championship points.
Furthermore, on Monday Safaricom injected Ksh36 million towards driver Hamza Anwar (Sh5m), with the balance being channeled towards provision of internet connectivity at the media center.
