Days after the National Assembly impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua before the Senate approved the decision, talks of more senior government officials on the chopping board are rife. However, Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament George Peter Kaluma has declared that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is not interested in speaker positions in the Senate or National Assembly.
In a statement that he shared on social media on October 22, Kaluma stated that the ODM has not requested that its members be elected to the above-mentioned positions.
“The party has intervened to secure national interest and national stability. We are in this for the stability of the State, not for positions,” Kaluma’s statement read in part.
Moreover, his statement has received sharp reactions indicating that the party is not displaying honesty, terming it a greedy political party with greedy leaders.
Moreover, Kaluma’s declaration comes a couple of days after Senator Edwin Sifuna on September 12, affirmed that ODM is not part of the government in a live interview with Citizen TV as they were deliberating on the Adani deal.

“ODM is not part of the Kenya Kwanza government, but they are trying to drag us into this mess. Nobody asked the party whether the airport should mortgage, this is a policy proposal by Kenya Kwanza,” Senator Sifuna affirmed.
ODM to Field Presidential Candidate in 2027
The Orange Democratic Party leaders have spoken in several instances reiterating that the appointment of various party leaders into cabinet secretary positions does not make them part of the Kenya Kwanza government. However, the party has justified its claims and recent acceptance of part of its members to hold cabinet offices citing that the country is better than an individual.
“We put our aspirations behind us and put the country in front. That does not mean that we are in government,” Sharif Nassir emphasized.
Nevertheless, speaking in Kwale during a meeting with the ODM delegates on October 20, Nassir highlighted that the party is set to field a presidential candidate in 2027 to challenge President Ruto.
Further, they urged the party to resolve their internal differences to enhance the chances of electing members of Parliament (MPs) Governors, Senators, and Members of the County Assembly through the ODM ticket.
