The National Police Service (NPS) has responded to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s claims that his life is in danger.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja through a statement by Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga clarified that the NPS remains committed to protecting all individuals without political bias, assuring all Kenyans, residents, and visitors of their safety.

Further, the police IG advised Gachagua to liase with the service in case he needs additional security.

Moreover, Gachagua has been instructed to notify the police in advance of his movements and public engagements to facilitate proper planning.

“In light of Gachagua’s security concerns, he is advised to liaise with police officers at all levels should he require additional security measures,

“And notify the police in advance of his movements and public engagements to facilitate proper planning and coordination of his security arrangements,” read the statement in part.

NPS On Security Situation in the Country

At the same time, NPS reminded the public that it is constitutionally obligated to uphold human rights and freedoms, as stipulated under Article 244(c) of the Constitution.

Further, Kenyans have been reassured that the security situation across the country remains stable, with proactive intelligence-led measures in place to detect and respond to threats.

Moreover, NPS stated that it would respond to all legitimate security needs as required under the law.

“NPS assures the public that the security situation nationwide remains stable, and proactive measures have been implemented to prevent criminal activities and Police shall dutifully respond to all security needs where and when requested as provided for under the law,” added the statement.

Gachagua Goes After Kanja

Earlier, Gachagua wrote a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, alleging that there were attempts to assassinate him.

In the letter, he expressed concern over the safety of himself, his family, his supporters, and his property.

Further, he stated that Kanja was facilitating crime and violence, noting that his security detail had been withdrawn as part of a calculated plan to expose him to harm.

Consequently, he demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of those behind the alleged acts of violence and insisted on being provided with full security during all public events he attended.

“You withdrew my security in a clear, thought-out scheme and backward conspiracy to make me vulnerable to organized criminal gangs in cohort with the police and other security agencies, and you have been implementing the scheme. You are aware of that,” Gachagua stated in the letter.
