President William Ruto has said he will use the term ‘my brother’ while referring to Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Raila Odinga over and over if it will help quell the anti-government demonstrations.
The President made these remarks on Monday, April 18 evening during an Iftar dinner with the Muslim community in State House.
President Ruto stated that the anti-government demos are derailing government efforts towards revamping the high cost of living among other issues ailing Kenyans.
“I asked my brother Raila Odinga to call off the protests, [because] they are destroying people’s property and businesses, there is a lot of bloodshed,” he said.
“If calling Raila Odinga ‘my brother’ is what will help him to stop the protests and the chaos so that people’s businesses do not get damaged then I will call him ‘my brother’ ten times more and I will even add my dear brother.” He added.
Moreover, the president highlighted that the country cannot profit in creating a conducive environment for Kenyans to operate their businesses if the political wrangles remain persistent.

“We want peace and calm in our country so that we concentrate on important things, we plan the economy, agriculture, we create jobs and other important things to our citizens,” he said.
Furthermore, the head of state had urged the opposition leader to call off the protests on April 2, proposing a bipartisan parliamentary sitting to allow the opposition team to air their grievances.
However, Azimio coalition threatened to return to the streets if their demands are not met.
They have meanwhile claimed that there is a lack of commitment from the government to freely engage in the talks.
