The newly appointed Moi University Council announced on Monday, January 3, stated that staff at the institution will receive their long-awaited salaries within the next three days.
While addressing members of the press, Professor Noah Midemba, Chairperson of the Moi University Council, assured staff that the outstanding salary arrears amount to Ksh500 million.
“Our priority is the welfare of our staff. We want to address the most pressing issues first before gradually tackling other challenges. However, it is crucial that all stakeholders—including staff, students, alumni, and the community—support our efforts. Without their backing, progress will be difficult,” said Professor Midemba.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kiplagat Koptut, emphasized that the council’s first step in restoring Moi University’s reputation is to rebuild confidence among staff and students.
“We are beginning by restoring confidence. You cannot approach the government to request more students if your own students lack trust in the institution. Our goal is to create a strong sense of belief in Moi University.
When students and staff speak positively about the institution, it will be easier for us to engage the government in discussions about increasing student enrollment,” said Professor Koptut.

On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Ministry of Education made changes to Moi University’s council.
