A man who was arrested for disrupting a photo session of government officials led by Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Njuguna Ndung’u on Budget Day spoke on June 14, 2024, while appearing before a magistrate at the Milimani Law Courts.

Identified as Julius Kamau Kimani, the man was accused of creating a disturbance at the Treasury headquarters in Nairobi.

Kamau while speaking in a footage seen by The Kenya Times explained to the court that anger led him to disrupt the photo session.

He went on to claim that people in the country are suffering and that the government was failing its people.

At the same time, Kamau boldly said that people in the country are living in fear, saying that he had decided not to live in fear.

“Poor people are suffering, and nobody cares, so I don’t know what the role of the government is. I want to know today what the role of the government is. I think the government has failed its people; everybody has failed. We have also failed ourselves. We cannot continue to live in fear, I see a lot of fear in this country a lot of fear in the courts” he said.

Furthermore, Kamau lamented that the common mwananchi in Kenya has for the longest time been treated unfairly by the “elite minority” that does not care about them.

“For sixty years we have been living like we are not human beings, like we are half human beings we are being considered like children of a lesser God.

This cannot continue because we are ruled by a minority that does not care for the interests of the majority. We are victims of lies and failed promises,” added Kamau.

Speaking on what could befall him if found guilty of the charges, the suspect claimed that he was even ready to be sentenced.

Kamau strongly maintained that he would not remain silent but only speak the truth until the day he would leave the world.

“We cannot continue to live like this my dear friends we must resist. Resistance is the only way for this country and for Africa at large, people are dying and suffering everywhere,” he maintained.

Budget Reading

The man and several others are facing charges for creating disturbance during the budget reading day on Thursday, June 13.

His arrest came before Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u presented the 2024/25 budget statement to the National Assembly.

During the presentation, the CS highlighted priority areas for the government to achieve Kenya Kwanza’ Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

This year’s budget involved an increase in total government expenditure to Ksh.3.9 trillion from Ksh.3.6 trillion in the 2023/24 financial year.
