Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has been dragged into the political jitters surrounding Meru County’s leadership.
In a statement on Sunday, October 1, Kuria noted that Meru leaders led by Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi had approached him pleading for postponement of the groundbreaking of an Industrial Park in the County.
According to Kuria, the leaders asked him to postpone his visit to the county due to the wrangles pitting embattled Governor Kawira Mwangaza and other elected leaders.
However, the Trade CS declined the request and vowed to carry on with the scheduled groundbreaking.
“I have received requests from my colleague Mithika Linturi and the Meru Leadership to postpone due to the prevailing political situation in Meru,” Kuria noted.
In the statement, Kuria noted that his determination to solve the problem of unemployment informed his decision to proceed with the planned tour.
Whilst asserting his respect for the Meru leaders, Kuria noted that joblessness and poverty need prompt action to address them.
“With profound respect I will NOT postpone,” the CS asserted.
“The joblessness and poverty facing our people cannot wait for even one hour as we fix our broken politics,” he added.
Kuria’s statement came hours after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua vowed not to interfere with the ongoing wrangles.

Meru Governor Faces Second Impeachment Attempt
Months after surviving an impeachment plotted by Members of Meru County Assembly, Governor Mwangaza is in the woods again faced with a fresh impeachment.
The majority MCAs in the County vowed to support an impeachment motion expected to be tabled in the coming days.

Attempts to reconcile the warring parties have failed in the past with the MCAs adamant that the current impeachment attempt will sail through.
However, Mwangaza has vowed to remain unmoved and blamed county leaders for her tribulations.
In her past public statements, the governor accused his deputy of colluding with senior government officials in the onslaught against her, adding that it is a politically instigated move.
