The government has named the Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi among the top preforming Cabinet Secretaries.
In a statement seen by The Kenya Times, the government highlighted key accomplishments by various ministries and the significant strides in different sectors.
According to the statement focusing on the ongoing government service delivery review, the sports and agriculture ministries have so far displayed commendable achievements.
The review focuses on each ministry’s performance contracts, addressing cross-cutting issues and technical performance aspects as well as assessing successes and challenges in the implementation of the BETA.
“The government, in pursuit of its Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), is conducting a comprehensive self-assessment of its service delivery over the past 16 months in office,” reads the statement in part.
Ministry Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Accomplishments
As part of its achievements, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports has reported vigorously campaigning and bagging the rights to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations that will mark a monumental occasion for Kenya.
Similarly, CS Namwamba secured the lifting of FIFA and World Aquatics bans that will open new avenues for international sports participation.
The ministry has also established three sports academies scheduled for completion by December 2024 and that will nurture the next generation of athletes.
Kenyan Government to Host AFCON 2027
The Ababu Namwamba-led ministry is also in the process of constructing ten stadiums set to be completed this year in readiness for the 2027 AFCON.
Furthermore, the sports Ministry has established a pool of youth football teams under the Talanta Hela program.
“The mainstreaming of youth, sports, and creatives across government by the Ministry, anchored in performance contracting, reflects a commitment to holistic development,” the statement further notes.

On the other side, the review notes that Kenya’s agricultural sector has played a pivotal role with a key milestone in the nation’s economic growth, contributing to a 5.9% increase in real GDP and a 2.5% reduction in inflation.
The Mithika Linturi led ministry also boasts of the National Fertilizer Subsidy Program that is currently on its third phase.
According to the statement the government has distributed 2.3 million bags of fertilizer, resulting in a substantial boost in maize yield from 40 million to 61 million bags.
Also, the government noted that it has achieved successful farmer registration through the Kilimo system, with 6.4 million farmers onboard.
“The registration of farmers has been successful with 6.4 million farmers already registered in the Kilimo system for proper planning,” adds the review.
Kenya’s Dairy Sector
As part of its efforts to expanding accessibility, the government plans to establish food stores in each ward (1450 in total), to bring subsidized farming closer to grassroots farmers.
The statement further revealed that Kenya’s dairy sector has experienced remarkable growth, with exports surging from 1.54 million kgs to an outstanding 18.69 million, which has solidified the country’s position as the leading milk producer in Africa.
Gratitude was however, extended to the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management, Moses Kuria, along with other Cabinet and Principal Secretaries for initiating the commendable idea of the roadshow aimed at showcasing the achievements of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The government roadshow commenced on Tuesday, January 9 making stops at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports.
These sessions are attended by respective Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Heads of Departments, and agencies.
