The government of Liberia hosted Kenya’s Chief Steward of the Green Africa Group, Dr. Isaac Kalua Green, to a high-level leadership summit in the country. Top leaders from across West Africa graced the conference to advance advocacy for initiatives such as Plant Your Age and Green Africa Villages, under the theme ‘Service Beyond Self.’
The historic visit saw heroic endorsement with the Liberian President Joseph Boakai, being officially appointed as Ambassador of the Plant Your Age Initiative in Liberia, and embracing a Swahili name “Baraka” that translates to ‘blessings’ as his wife, the First Lady Kartumu Yarta Boakai, got a Kamba name “Mwende” meaning ‘the beloved’, a symbol of commitment and unity between East and West African countries.
“In a historic endorsement, President Boakai accepted his appointment as an Ambassador of the Plant Your Age Initiative in Liberia. In an expression of unity between East and West Africa, the President embraced the Swahili name Baraka, while the First Lady accepted the name Mwende, meaning beloved.”
His extraordinary commitment, influence, and impact in environmental stewardship led him to hold a talk with prominent members during the meeting.
High-level Meeting
During his mission, Dr. Kalua held official meetings with President Joseph Nyuma Baraka Boakai, former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, senior government ministers, private-sector leaders, and prominent banking executives to strengthen East–West Africa collaboration.

Additionally, high-level talks with West African bishops, led by Bishop Bimba, Bishop Wolo Belleh, and Bishop Weah, facilitated engagements and explored pathways for environmental restoration, youth empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, and continental collaboration.
Dr. Kalua, who is recognized for championing people-centered and environmentally grounded development models, urged the African leaders to embrace a new era of transformative stewardship.
The rise of Africa
Addressing the leaders, Kalua noted that Africa will rise when leadership consistently delivers value, protects natural wealth, and empowers communities to prosper with dignity.
“Our continent cannot be built by extracting from the future but by investing in it,” Dr. Kalua said.
In an emerging thought with the West African leaders in sustainable, community-driven African development, with growing continental influence beyond Kenya, he stressed that selflessness is a key weapon to ensuring a united Africa.
“When leaders choose service beyond self, when communities take responsibility for their environment, and when nations collaborate rather than compete, Africa becomes a force the world must reckon with,” Kalua added.
