At least nine counties have cleared outstanding bills they were owing the Kenya Medical supplies Authority(Kemsa)
The counties include Kilifi, Nakuru, Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru, West Pokot, Turkana, Kisii and Makueni
Kemsa says that its pending bills owed by county governments for medical supplies has dropped from Sh3.9 billion to Sh2.7 billion.
Kemsa chief executive officer Terry Ramadhani counties still ow the agency money for supplies made since November 2021.
The agency adopted a new debt collection strategy to cut on pending bills.
Delay by counties to pay for supplies made by the agency has seen the delayed payment of suppliers the agency relies on .
Currently, Kemsa owes some Sh2 billion to its local and foreign suppliers.
Kemsa has automated several of its functions and incorporated use of information technology systems which has seen the agency reduce order turnaround time from 46 days to the current 16 days.
