A 40-year-old man from Siakago, Mbeere North sub-county, Embu County on February 14 died after allegedly failing to follow instructions given by a witchdoctor.
According to a police report, it all began when David Ngare’s (deceased) brother Daniel Ireri’s motorcycle was stolen on February 9 while at home and immediately made a report at Siakago Police Station.
Not satisfied even after reporting the theft incident, the family decided to engage a witchdoctor identified as Collins Kech from Kisumu County to recover the stolen motorcycle.

The witchdoctor visited the family on February 14 and at around 11:30 am he performed his witchcraft and told the family members that the results would be out in three hours.
He further instructed all those who were present that no one was allowed to take alcohol or leave the compound until the three hours had lapsed.
He then left for Kisumu after giving the orders.
Ireri’s wife Christine Nzula escorted him and when she returned home, Ngare had left to an unknown destination, in the company of another family member, Elkana Muthomi. This was contrary to the instructions that had been issued by the witchdoctor.
Ireri then went out to Gatito shopping center to check on the two after their phones went unanswered, but he did not find them.
He intensified the search by boarding a boda-boda rider to take him to the BAT area but before reaching the centre, they met a man not known to Daniel riding a motorcycle that Ngare had bought after he (Ireri) lost his to suspected thieves.
Using the two motorcycles, they moved to Mwondu center where they found David Ngare and Elkana Muthomi helpless and unable to talk. Ngare was half naked.
”Using the two motorcycles, the two were ferried back home though they were very weak and had to be tied on the motorcycle for support,” the police report read in part.
While at home, Christine Nzula called the witchdoctor to intervene and the witchdoctor demanded an extra Ksh20,000 which was immediately sent through his M-Pesa number.
However, the witchdoctor said it was too late and only Muthoni responded positively with Ngare succumbing.
The body of the deceased was taken to Embu Level 5 Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
