As the battle to control the National Assembly shapes up three MPs elected on an independent ticket have joined the Kenya Kwanza alliance after meeting with president-elect William Samoei Ruto.
They include Njoroge Kururia of Gatundu North, Ekesa Mulanya of Nambale and Nebart Muriuki of Mbere South
Both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio coalitions are wooing independent MPs in a move to take control of numbers in the National Assembly.
Gatundu’s Njoroge Kururia met Ruto and deputy president-elect, Rigathi Gachagua, on Tuesday, August 16, and this is when he made the decision to join Kenya Kwanza.
In the National Assembly, Azimo has a slight majority of 162 seats while Kenya Kwanza has 159 seats.
Kenya Kwanza bagged 24 Woman Rep seats while its rival Azimio La Umoja got 20 seats.
The Ruto-led coalition got 22 Governors while Azimio got 21. In the Senate, Kenya Kwanza got 24 slots while Azimio got 23.
Tow county governors were elected on an independent ticket while Mombasa and Kakamega counties are set to elect their new governors on August 23rd
The three independents are expected to be unveiled today when DP Ruto will meet the UDA and Kenya Kwanza elected leaders in the just concluded polls.
