The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has postponed the execution of the Green Park bus terminal that was set for Tuesday, May 24.
The NMS led by Major General Mohamed Badi on Monday, May 23 announced the rescheduling, mentioning a request for time extension by operators of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).
“NMS wishes to notify the public that the operationalization of the Green Park Bus Terminal that was set to commence on 24th May 2022 has been postponed following a request for time extension by PSV operators,” said NMS through a tweet.
A new date for the roll-out is yet to be communicated.
This announcement by the NMS came just two days after the facility’s main contractor complained about unsettled payments. Osborne Yogo, who is the Fairton Agencies contractor claimed that they have not been paid for the construction of the terminus, adding that the payment has been delayed for over a year.
Mr. Yogo further threatened to sue NMS to stop the launch until a payment plan roadmap was released. He also gave them 24 hours to issue a payment plan which should be in a written commitment form.
“We are seeking to move to court to seek an injunction that this facility is not launched by Tuesday as it has been planned because there is no way the President can come and launch the place while it has not been paid for,” he said in a Saturday interview with NTV.
However, NMS Transport Director Engineer Michael Ochieng denied having any connections to Yogo, and claimed he was unaware of the allegations.
Moreover, in the proposed plan, all PSVs plying Ngong’ road, Argwings Kodhek road, and Lang’ata road will pick and drop passengers at the Green Park Bus Terminal. According to NMS the terminal will accommodate between 300 and 350 vehicles at a go.
