Ex-Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has allegedly been abducted by unknown people.
Maina Njenga’s lawyer Ndegwa Njiru noted that his client was abducted on Saturday September 16 from his home in Kiambu and taken to undisclosed location.
“My client Maina Njenga was abducted by the DCI from his house in Kiambu. He has been taken to an undisclosed location,” he wrote on X.
Moreover, while criticizing the police he alleges were involved in Maina’s abduction, Njiru said the former Mungiki leader was abducted by police whose Subarus had a South Sudan registration number.
He further noted that his client was not booked in any police station.

Maina Njega’s July Arrest
Nonetheless, the former Mungiki leader was arrested on July 19 and held incommunicado for five days before being produced in court.
This was after his family members reported him missing, mounting pressure on the state to produce him in court or set him free.
According to the prosecution in Njega’s case, the suspect, his iade and brother were found in possession of 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus, and three jembe sticks at his Kiserian home.
Additionally, the prosecution claimed the weapons may have been intended to be used to commit a felony.

Lawyer Njiru said they are meant to appear before the court for a mention on the weapons case on Monday, September 18.
“We are scheduled to appear before Makadara Court for a mention on the weapons case tomorrow. We do not know why they are abducting him,” a report by Citizen TV reads.
He further claimed that the abductors are looking for a reason to arrest Njenga when he does not appear in court.
