The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has assured Kenyans that no names are missing in the voter registers as claimed by DP William Ruto.
While speaking to the media on Thursday, June 2, at Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati reported that the one million names alleged to be missing from the voter register, are those of voters who applied for transfers.
“Those spreading rumors that the data register has been lost be informed that it is intact. There is no breach or form of interference on the systems that we use to maintain the register,” he stated.
Likewise, Chebukati mentioned that, claims of missing voter names may have also occurred due to the degazzetement of some polling centres.
Moreover, he assured Kenyans that IEBC will account for everyone who registered to vote.
The IEBC chairman further reported that, his commission will certify the final register and gazette it by June 9, after which it will be broken down into counties, constituency and wards.
Furthermore, Chebukati said the voter registers will be available for all electorates to confirm their details until seven days to the August 9 general elections.
According to the commission’s chairman, IEBC had registered 22.5 million voters and the register was undergoing an audit by the international firm KPMG.
“Commission assures Kenyans that the data is intact and the ongoing processes is just to ensure the register is clean in readiness for the elections,” Chebukati said.
Besides, Chebukati said the process will be transparent and everybody will be in a position to see where they will cast their votes.
