The Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said that some of the current economic challenges were left behind by the previous regime which is why the government has failed to meet some of its financial obligations.
Speaking on Sunday at a church service in Iten Elgeyo Marakwet, the CS said the government is trying to pay up debts left behind, and at the same time clarified that the country was not broke.
” I can see there is an ongoing debate that the country is broke. It is not that there is no money, all the money is being eroded by debts. The debt that was taken, and some were taken haphazardly, for some debts, the money has never been accounted for,” Murkomen explained.

Many civil servants, and Members of Parliament have come out to complain of delayed March salaries and Governors lamenting that they have not received funds to ensure the running of counties for four months now.
” I want to assure Kenyans, that there is nothing to be worried about in our country. These economic challenges you are seeing are those left to us by the previous regime, and we will sort it out,” Murkomen said.
Murkomen further urged citizens to have faith in president Ruto to revive the country’s economy, adding that Azimio Chief Raila Odinga should consider himself lucky he did not become the president as he would be facing a challenging task.
” Raila should thank God and tell him to thank you for not making him President, because had he been President, I don’t even know where he would have begun from. Better our hustler who knows how to hustle he will know how to sort out the problem,” Murkomen said.
