Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has banned Governor Kawira Mwangaza and other politicians from holding chaotic political events in Meru County.
Speaking on Friday, September 22, in Kiengu Meru County, Kindiki banned political rallies used to incite the public and cause violence.
“I got reports that supporters of Governor Mwangaza incited people, abused other people, caused chaos and attacked journalists,” said Kindiki.
Further, Kindiki said the group attacked by Mwangaza’s supporters also broke the law.
In addition, CS Kindiki said the government will not allow politicians to incite citizens against each other for their personal interests.
“The government will take legal action against all politicians involved in the chaos that occurred on Sunday, September 17 and they must record a police statement so that in future nobody tries this nonsense again,” he said.
Moreover, the CS said politicians must learn to persuade people using policies and not violence.
The CS said politicians should hold rallies to sell their manifesto but not disrupt peace.
“We have banned politicians from holding incitement rallies, we will not allow such events,” he said.

Kindiki on Handling Politicians
Also, Kindiki said he will deal with such politicians like he handled the opposition during the anti-government protests.

Additionally, the CS dared politicians to hold such rallies.
“I have seen in the media that some people have organized an incitement rally at Imenti Central, that event will not happen,” he said.
Kindiki said politicians and the public should exercise their democratic rights in peace.
Also, he promised to lead in the resolution of border disputes within the region.

Mwangaza Attack
Chaos rocked Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza‘s event on Sunday, September 17, in Igembe South.
Kawira had attended a church service in Baite Family Fellowship Outreach on Sunday.
While at the event, the governor donated mattresses gumboots, iron sheets and a cow towards helping the less fortunate in society.
“It is with great regret that we must address the recent incident that took place during our Baite family fellowship outreach from Makiri in Maua Igembe South.
We experienced violence where part of our donations was destroyed including a cow that was meant to benefit a needy family,” she stated.
