A nurse in Kilifi passed away while trying to save her 2-year-old son who was trapped in a burning house.
According to witnesses at the scene of the incident, the fire which broke out from one of the bedrooms, was ignited by electric wires from a nearby pole.
Additionally, it was reported that Hilda Mahikizo, the nurse, rushed into the house to rescue her son who was sleeping inside.
Her husband and their daughter waited outside while she rushed into the building but later on, the father joined her into the house to try and rescue both the nurse and the 2-year-old.

However, the fire engulfed the house very quickly.
According to reports, when the fire broke, Hilda had gone to the shop while her husband and daughter were out. They therefore learnt of the inferno when neighbors alerted them.
The fire claimed the life of the nurse and her son. Police officers at the scene stated that investigations into the matter had begun.

In a separate incident in March, a middle-aged man took his own life by locking himself in his house before setting it on fire in Chuna Estate in Kitengela.
According to police reports, the father of two released cooking gas inside his bungalow and started the fire that claimed his life and partially burnt down the house.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man sent away the house maid before locking himself in the room. His wife and children were also not present when the incident occurred.
Isinya Sub-County Commander Patrick Manyasi reported that investigations into the matter had been launched to determine the motive of the deceased.

However, witnesses at the scene said that the man had been involved in domestic wrangles with his wife who was away with their child during the incident.
Also, he explained that the neighbors saw a huge smoke coming from the house when they rushed to see what was happening upon which the revelation left them in shock.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that it was a suicide fire, and we are conducting further investigations,” Manyasi stated.
