The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced upcoming disruption on Mombasa Road.
In a statement on Thursday, February 8, the Authority notified motorists that there will be partial traffic disruption on both carriageways of Mombasa Road (A8), between the Ole – Sereni and Athi River Interchange.
The interruptions, KeNHA noted, will be occasioned by ongoing road maintenance works in the area.
During the announced disruptions, motorists will have to share lanes at some point.
As such the authority advised motorists to approach the affected sections with caution.
KeNHA also assured that traffic signs and traffic officers will be deployed on the site to ensure coordination and order.
“Follow the traffic signs and guidance in place as shall be directed by Traffic Marshalls and Police on site,” KeNHA announced.
“Traffic movement will be guided by police, assisted by the contractor staff on site as maintenance works proceed.”
How Expressway disrupted Mombasa Road traffic
Most parts of Mombasa Road were affected and damaged by the construction of the Expressway.
More than one year later, motorists using the highway, a crucial artery road to Nairobi CBD, are still grappling with potholes and a bumpy road surface.

The government was forced to repair some areas that had been left in a near impassible state.
In addition, the Highway’s drainage system has been a constant challenge for Nairobi motorists.
Speaking while responding to questions by Members of Parliament in 2023, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the rehabilitation works on the Highway were set to commence last April.

At the time, Murkomen assured that the rehabilitation works would be complete by April 2025.
But the government failed to keep the promise as the construction works on most parts were yet to commence by the end of 2023.
Besides the Mombasa Road, the Waiyaki Way connecting Nairobi CBD to parts of Westlands and other counties was damaged during the construction of the Expressway.
