Drivers operating on Digital Taxi platforms in Nairobi and other major towns have gone on strike due to what they term as non-compliance by the transport network companies, they operate under.
The drivers in Nairobi held peaceful protests at the Nairobi Greenpark terminus seeking to petition the Ministry of Transport and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to address their concerns.
Likewise, digital taxi drivers in Mombasa and other major towns held similar protests as they blamed the transport network companies for offering discounts to customers.
They also asked the transport network to lower the commission charged from the current high of 25-30 % to 18%.

The Chairperson of Organization of Online Drivers Mr. Justin Nyaga stated that the Taxi hailing apps have not implemented earlier agreements on capping commission charged on drivers which was to begin on September 20, 2022.
Moreover, NTSA had given the transport companies 14 days to register and produce working agreements with drivers.
However, this is yet to materialize, and the authority has not taken action on the taxi hailing apps.
Nonetheless, the go-slow will affect transport operations on taxi hailing apps such as Uber, Bolt, Little Cab, Yego, Maramoja and others.
