Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K) Secretary General Francis Atwoli on Sunday, April 28, defended Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja against political attacks.
Speaking during the Labour Prayer Movement thanksgiving ceremony at St Stephen’s ACK Church in Jogoo Road Atwoli asserted that Sakaja is like a son to him.
“You all know that Sakaja is my son. During the Labor Day when I asked you to give me that boy as a Senator, you did it. He is my boy,” Atwoli said.
“When the father retired, he left him in our care. When someone stands on television attacking that boy, the first person to feel the pain is the father. I will try to restrain it.”
Atwoli, however, expressed that someone should inform Sakaja that the father is not happy.
Atwoli Called on to Save Sakaja
This came after Makadara MP George Aladwa in the same event urged Atwoli to intervene in matters concerning Nairobi County.
He said that Sakaja needed to be given more time to serve his people as required.
“The primary employee in Nairobi is Sakaja. Delivering work in that office is very difficult,” MP Aladwa said.

“Sakaja was elected as Nairobi Governor during the day and sworn in during the day. He should be respected and given time to do his work. They have started pushing him to this and that.”
Recently there have been claims of a rift between DP Gachagua and the Nairobi governor over his recent bid for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party chairmanship in Nairobi.
Sakaja has however dismissed the claims stating that he has no differences with the deputy president.
“He is a senior man who is respected, he has been in politics, and even though he got us by politics after us, he came in and became popular. He is a good leader who should be respected,” he said.
Sakaja Faces Backlash
The public and leaders have criticized Sakaja following increased floods in the county that has left many homeless, with city legislators accusing the governor of mismanaging the capital city.

Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, leading the legislators, stated that Nairobi could be facing its worst leadership crisis in history.
He highlighted that the dream sold during campaigns, promising a city of order and dignity, hope, and opportunity for all, is slowly turning into a nightmare for city residents.
MP Kiarie added that Nairobi City is drowning in the murky lakes of free-flowing sewage, with estates buried in mountains of garbage, taps whistling tunes of dryness, and storm waters flooding homes and businesses.
