The Nairobi Hospital announced that it made Ksh 16 million from the laundry business in its latest annual report for the year that ended December 2022.
On February 21, 2022, the premier health facility opened the commercial laundry services to the public in a bid to boost its revenue streams through diversification.
However, the hospital disclosed that it made Ksh564 million loss due to the weakening of the shilling against the dollar in 2023.
Also, the hospital noted that there is a decline in the number of patients, especially at its United Nations wing where bed occupancy was reduced by 30%.
However, the hospital had hinted at converting the 135-bed facility into a research center after the corona period.
“The hospital is currently engaged in the process of repurposing the facility,” the hospital proposed

Laundry Sector
The hospital announced that it was accepting linen from the public, promising professional and satisfactory laundry services.
Also, the Nairobi Hospital acquired a TBS50 Hygiene batch washer capable of handling up to 1,200 kg of linen per hour.
The hospital purchased the Girbau sanitary barrier machinery to ensure separation of the two regions in the laundry and to prevent cross contamination of filthy and clean linen.

According to the machine’s manufacturer, Girbau Global Laundry Solutions, the batch system enables rigorous washing operations that eradicate significant levels of dirt.
The laundry comprises the 63kg to 122kg HS Series washing machines that can quickly handle enormous amounts of soiled clothing.
Additionally, the hospital incorporated the Aquafall technology (with perforated blades within the drum) which allow greater rinsing to totally remove chemical remnants from linen.
